About Matilda Law

Personal injury lawyers who put people first

With over 26 years of combined experience, Directors Allison and Rachel, founded Matilda Injury Lawyers to do things differently.

We built a practice where injured people aren’t just file numbers. Where you work directly with us, and where we take the time to truly understand your situation to tailor our approach to what you need.

Why Matilda

Matilda: Quintessentially Australian, a name that nods to both being mighty in battle and the trusty swag that keeps you and your possessions safe while on a journey.

It reflects who we are: approachable, practical and determined, built on the values of sticking up for the underdog and never giving up.

Our Mission

We believe all injured people in our region should have access to personalised legal services.

Meet the Team

ALLISON GRIMLEY

Principal Lawyer | Master of Laws

Born and Raised

Born in Brisbane, Allison relocated to Toowoomba when she was young and the Darling Downs became home to her and her family.

She attended Rangeville State School and St Saviour's College, where she decided that she wanted to become a lawyer.

Building the Foundation

Allison completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Criminology at Griffith University, followed by her Master of Laws.

Leading Regional Personal Injury

She was admitted as a lawyer in 2011 and worked at several national and local firms across Brisbane and the Gold Coast before returning to Toowoomba.

A New Era of Personal Injury Law

After working together for several years, Allison co-founded Matilda Injury Lawyers with fellow lawyer Rachel Bhatt, bringing a new approach to personal injury law in regional Queensland.

She hopes to bring clarity and compassion to every person injured in Toowoomba and Regional Queensland, by providing personalised legal services.

RACHEL BHATT

Principal Lawyer | Bachelor of Laws

Born and Raised

Born and raised in Toowoomba, Rachel grew up surrounded by family roots in Wandoan and Wyreema.

She attended St Saviour’s Primary and St Saviour’s College, and from an early age, she knew she wanted to help people.

Discovering Law

One week after finishing Year 12, Rachel started at Kennedy Spanner Lawyers as an office junior. Quickly moving through the ranks to receptionist and legal assistant, she discovered her passion for personal injury law.

She later worked as a HSE Advisor with Easternwell Camp Management, travelling across Eastern Queensland, earning a Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety while completing TapRoot Incident Investigation Training.

Building Expertise

Rachel joined Maurice Blackburn Lawyers while completing her law degree through the University of Southern Queensland. In 2017, she was elected Vice President of the USQ Law Society and awarded the Shine Bursary in 2018 for leadership potential.

After her admission to the Supreme Court of Queensland in February 2020, she became a qualified lawyer, working in Ipswich and later returning to Toowoomba.
